Welcome to the English Language Institute at Wyoming Seminary's Summer at Sem.

For four weeks during the heart of summer, nestled in the hills of northeast Pennsylvania, the small campus of Wyoming Seminary comes to life with a vibrant pulse that beats loudly. Fueled by a lifeblood of students from around the world, the English Language Institute promises students an opportunity to improve their English language skills. With its rigorous academics, cultural explorations, and a beautiful campus community, Summer at Sem challenges its students to succeed in every facet of the school's motto:

Verum. Pulchrum. Bonum.

The True. The Beautiful. The Good.

While at the English Language Institute, students can expect to learn. They will learn English language skills such as grammar, vocabulary, and conversational skills. They will learn the language of science through Wyoming Seminary's groundbreaking STEM option, which allows students to build and program robots, perform experiments using chemistry and biology, and understand vocabulary that is essential to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Finally, students who choose the Culture option will learn about American culture and United States history; these students study American film, explore poetry and expository writing, and even work on this very blog. Yes, this blog is compiled directly from the experiences and words of our English Language Institute students.

In addition to the academic nature of the program, Summer at Sem also allows students to improve their world knowledge through a variety of cultural experiences. Our campus is located within driving distance to historically important cities such as Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; New York City, New York; Boston, Massachusetts; and Washington D.C.. This summer, English Language Institute students will be traveling to Philadelphia, New York, and Hershey Park as a group, and our Ten Day Travel session will explore Niagara Falls and Upstate New York; the rolling hills of New Hampshire; the shores of Lake Champlain in Burlington, Vermont; and conclude their trip in one of the founding cities of the United States: Boston, Massachusetts. Students have endless opportunities to explore the east coast of the country while they are with us on campus.

If traveling was not enough, Wyoming Seminary's English Language Institute offers students a global stage as students come together from all corners of the world. Summer at Sem has welcomed students from a number of countries ranging from Québec, Canada to Kathmandu, Nepal, with many places in between. In the last few years, students in the English Language Institute have hailed from Argentina, Canada, China, the Czech Republic, Colombia, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Nepal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, and Vietnam, just to name a few.

We know how valuable time is at Summer at Sem, so we won't waste too much more of your time with this introduction. The 2017 English Language Institute has just begun and the next four weeks will fly by. Join us as we learn and grow with one another. The world is a vast place full of different cultures, beliefs, and ideologies. Wyoming Seminary's English Language Institute builds bridges to everyone, inviting everyone to our table in hopes of sharing our beliefs: That TRUTH and knowledge can bring cultures together, that the BEAUTY of our campus can inspire and ignite a passion for learning no matter how you define it, and that Wyoming Seminary is a place that believes in community, in family, and in the GOODness of all peoples.

Welcome to the English Language Institute.
